About the Artist

Susan Staresina attended University of Calgary as a Fine Arts major and has worked creatively most of her life. Before settling in New Brunswick in 2020, Susan lived in both western and central Canada. In her current art, she continues to draw inspiration from these places and experiences.

With a primary focus on lush plant life and maritime scenes, Susan enjoys painting in a realistic style to portray animals, and tranquil, natural landscape views.  She also enjoys creating portraits, and most often uses the medium of acrylic paint.  After capturing the image of a family cat named Muffin, and successfully portraying both her personality and the love her family feels for Muffin, Susan has continued creating Pet Portraits for others, sharing in the joy of these animals’ lives with her friends and clients.

Susan has been drawn to the innocence and beauty of song birds for most of her life and she and her cat enjoy watching the many visitors to the bird feeders in her own yard. Cats, with their mysterious ways and their complex personalities, are a common theme in Susan’s paintings.

After a recent exhibition during the “Art Across the Marsh Studio Tour”, Susan displayed her latest painting of a street scene in her home town of Sackville, NB. Sadly, the restaurant “Joey’s” pictured here, burnt down in 2023 (2 days after she took the photo she used as a reference for this painting).

Current development plans may knock down the other buildings in this scene to make way for new business and housing opportunities. This painting is a tribute to the wonderful feel of this small town and some of the small businesses that were once located on that street.
